Brian McNichol
Brian McNichol grew up in Fox Chase and attended St. Cecilia School, where he began his athletic career at the CYO level and through participation in Fox Rok’s travel program. He attended high school at Cardinal Dougherty and Northeast, where he was a member of the track team.Brian began coaching in 1977 as Boys High School CYO coach at St. Cecilia. He continued as the Boys grade school coach for the next eight years. Brian then moved on to Abington FriendsHigh School, where he served as the Assistant Coach for the Varsity Boys team.
In 1990, he returned to Fox Rok travel, this time with the girls program, and remained with their travel program for 11 years. During his tenure at Fox Rok, he also became involved with Presentation BVM’s and St. Cecilia’s girls teams.
Due to his success in this capacity, Brian was selected as Cardinal Dougherty’s Girls JV coach in 2001, but St. Cecilia still beckoned, so he returned once again in 2004 as head coach of the Girls Varsity CYO team. During the 2011-2012 season, he serves as the head coach of St. Albert the Great's girls varsity.
In 2010, Brian led the 11U to a strong performance in the Mid-Atlantic Disctrict Qualifier, narrowly missing out on a bid to Division 1 Nationals but garnering a big win over the tournament's eventual third place finisher, the Collegeville Jaguars. Last year, the team had great experiences at popular tournaments in Fairfax, VA and Haddonfield, NJ, as well as many other appearances in local tournaments.
This year, he hopes to continue the team's growing success with the Magic AAU program and prepare his players for their first taste of high school basketball as Head Coach of the 13U team.
