gregg sylvester
Gregg Sylvester began his coaching career at Somerton Youth Organization, where he has been coaching travel teams of various ages for the past 10 years. He also was the assistant coach of the St. Christopher Girls JV team from 2003 - 2005. In 2006, he became part of the boys program, as head coach of the Boys JV team, where he still coaches today.
In 2008, Gregg was selected to the coaching staff at Villa Joseph Marie High School in Holland, PA. He served as the Head Coach of the Girls JV team, which saw much improvement in their play throughout the season, and the Assistant Coach of the Girls Varsity.
Gregg began coaching AAU in the Spring of 2003 with the Northeast Rockers, and he stayed with them for 3 years. In 2006, he left the Rockers and became the assistant coach of the Philadelphia Belles 11U team, where three years ago, he helped lead the same team at 12U to a National-Qualifying fourth place finish at the Mid-Atlantic District Tournament. In 2008, Gregg took the Magic 11U squad to a 5th place finish at the District Championship Tournament, earning a bid to Division 1 AAU Nationals in the process.
In 2009, Gregg led the 14U/ Freshman team through the process of their first collegiate exposure events, a Super-Regional Championship title, and the Division 1 National Championship Tournament in Roanoke, VA.
Gregg stresses hard work and intensity, both at practice and during competitive games. Throughout each season, he plans to re-visit the all-important fundamental skills and teach new moves and concepts that the players can successfully employ during gameplay.
